Real Madrid suffer 2-1 away loss to Villarreal in La Liga

Real Madrid suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Villarreal on matchday 16 of the Spanish La Liga on Saturday.

Villarreal broke the deadlock with a 47-minute goal from Yeremy Pino at Estadio de la Ceramica.

Real Madrid leveled the game when Karim Benzema converted the penalty kick successfully in the 60th minute.

After three minutes, Gerard Moreno scored a penalty goal for Villarreal as the game ended with a 2-1 score in favor of the home side.

Collecting 27 points, Villarreal jumped to the fifth spot, with eight victories and five losses.

Real Madrid remained in second place with 38 points to have 12 wins and two defeats.

Real Madrid without Spanish players in their starting lineup for 1st time ever

Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti selected a Real Madrid starting lineup with no Spanish player, for the first time ever in their 120-year history.

There were no Spanish players in Real Madrid’s starting lineup in the Villarreal match.

Ancelotti selected a Belgian (Thibaut Courtois), two Brazilians (Vinicius Junior and Eder Militao), an Austrian (David Alaba), two Germans (Antonio Rudiger and Toni Kroos), three Frenchmen (Aurelien Tchouameni, Ferland Mendy, and Karim Benzema), a Croat (Luka Modric), and an Uruguayan (Federico Valverde) in the starting lineup.
