Real Madrid goalkeeper Courtois suffers from shocking knee injury

ANKARA

Real Madrid are dismayed over their Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’ shocking knee injury.

“Following tests carried out on Thibaut Courtois, the player has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” the Spanish powerhouse said in a statement on Thursday.

Courtois, 31, was confirmed to undergo surgery in the next few days.

In 2018, Courtois left England’s Chelsea to join Real Madrid. His contract at the Whites will expire in 2026.

Courtois won a UEFA Champions League title, a UEFA Super Cup, two Spanish La Liga titles, a Spanish Cup, and two FIFA Club World Cups with Real Madrid.

The experienced goalkeeper amassed 102 international caps for Belgium.

On Saturday, Real Madrid will visit Athletic Bilbao in their Spanish La Liga opener.
