Real Madrid denied rumors Saturday about the departure of club President Florentino Perez.

“These rumors are categorically false and are due to certain interests that have nothing to do with reality,” the team said in a statement. “At the upcoming General Assembly of Representative Members of Real Madrid there will be no agenda item to discuss the name of Real Madrid City.”

Perez, who has been under criticism recently, is rumored to be considering stepping down form Los Merengues’ top seat.

The 76-year-old came under fire as former La Liga referee Iturralde Gonzalez claimed Perez personally questioned him after a league game in 2010, but no legal action was taken.

Perez, who established Real Madrid’s Los Galacticos transfer policy involving signing at least one of the world’s most popular players in current year’s summer transfer window — even with record fees — was elected president of the club between 2000 and 2006.

He reassumed the presidency in 2009 and has been the club’s chairman since.

Real Madrid have bagged six UEFA Champions League, five FIFA Club World Cups and six Spanish La Liga titles during his tenure.
