RB Leipzig signed Belgian forward Lois Openda on Friday, the German Bundesliga club confirmed.

“RB Leipzig have signed Lois Openda (23) from Ligue 1 side RC Lens. The striker has put pen to paper on a five-year deal until June 2028 and will wear the number 17 shirt. Welcome to Leipzig, Lois!,” Leipzig said in a statement.

Openda said he is “very happy” to be a Leipzig player.

“The club are amongst the top teams in the Bundesliga, compete regularly in the Champions League and have won the cup in back-to-back seasons. It’s an incredibly exciting club and I want to take my next steps at Leipzig,” Openda said.

He helped Club Brugge win the 2020 Belgian league title.

Belgium forward Openda was a Lens player last season to score 21 goals in the French Ligue 1, and helped the club finish second in the domestic league. The result took Lens to the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2002.

He played for his native Belgium at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
