Rampant Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 5-1 in an English Premier League match Saturday and are in the third spot in the standings, a point behind Chelsea.
Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus scored an early opener in the Crystal Palace penalty area. But the hosts leveled the after Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr curled the ball into the corner in the 11th minute at Selhurst Park, London.
Unmarked Jesus fired a volley to score in the box after a back pass from Thomas Partey. The goal put Arsenal ahead once again.
In the 38th minute, Arsenal’s German star Kai Havertz made it 3-1 as he had an easy chance after Jesus’ header went off the post.
Gabriel Martinelli was in the six-yard box and diverted a shot by Gunners midfielder Declan Rice into the Crystal Palace net to make 4-1 in the second half.
In the 84th minute, Rice fired a volley to send the ball into the bottom right to end the scoring for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal increased their points to 33 in 17 matches.
Their city rivals, Chelsea, have 34 points. The Blues will visit Everton on Sunday at Liverpool’s Goodison Park.
Liverpool are the leaders with 36 points before their away match against Tottenham Hotspur in London on Sunday. The leaders have now two matches in hand.
