President Erdogan says Türkiye desires enhanced bilateral cooperation with Japan

ISTANBUL

Türkiye desires to enhance bilateral cooperation with Japan, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the Turkish Communications Directorate said on Thursday.

In a phone call, Erdogan expressed his gratitude to Kishida for congratulating him on his May 28 re-election.

Erdogan said 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Türkiye and Japan, and the next year will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

He emphasized his desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in a range of areas, including the economy, energy, agriculture, education, defense, disaster management, science, and technology.

Erdogan shared his hope for the continuation of support and solidarity demonstrated by Japan after the devastating Feb. 6 earthquakes in southern Türkiye.

He also invited Kishida to visit Türkiye.
