Aston Villa from the English Premier League announced Tuesday that they decided to extend manager Unai Emery’s contract.
The Spanish coach will stay with the Villans until 2027, according to a statement.
“We are enjoying our way together with Villa fans, the club owners, management and this great group of players that we are proud of,” said Emery. “Me and the football management … we share the vision of the owners. Nassef (Sawiris, chairman) and Wes (Edens) (co-owner) are very supportive and respectful, and we have a good environment and the right structure to develop this football club.”
Aston Villa is currently in the fourth spot in the Premier League with 66 points. They will take on Olympiacos from Greece in the 2023-24 UEFA Europa Conference League semifinals May 2.
Emery, 52, joined Aston Villa in November 2022, after stepping down as manager of Spanish La Liga side Villarreal in October of that year.
He previously led Sevilla to three consecutive UEFA Europa League titles from 2014 – 2016, then went on to win another Europa League with Villarreal in 2021.
He clinched the 2017-18 French Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
