Giovanni Lonardi, the Italian rider from the Polti Kometa tea, won Stage 3 of the 2024 Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye (TUR 2024) on Tuesday.
Bora–Hansgrohe’s Danny Van Poppel crossed the finish line first but was disqualified from the sprint for squeezing Lonardi into the barriers in the final meters of the stage between Fethiye and Marmaris in southern Türkiye.
Lonardi took first in a time of 3 hours, 24 minutes, 57 seconds, ahead of Enrico Zanoncello of VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizane and Max Kanter of Astana Kazakhstan.
The 27-year-old took the overall classification lead with 11 hours, 4 minutes and 17 seconds and took the “turquoise jersey.”
The tour, which will continue Wednesday with the 137.9-kilometer Stage 4 between Marmaris and Bodrum, will Sunday end in Istanbul.
