Poland defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0, gaining their first win in a World Cup Group C match on Saturday.

Poland opened the scoring when Piotr Zielinski made a classy-range finish in the 39th minute, assisted by Robert Lewandowski at Doha’s Education City Stadium.

Saleh Alshehri was brought down by Krystian Bielik in the penalty area, and after a video assistant referee (VAR) review, Saudi Arabia was awarded a 45-minute penalty.

But goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny saved Salem Aldawsari’s penalty kick as the first half ended with a 1-0 score in favor of Poland.

In the 82nd minute, the Polish national team doubled the lead with a close-range kick from their superstar Lewandowski.

Saudi Arabia collected three points and Poland boosted their points to four.

Earlier in the day, Australia beat Tunisia 1-0 as the goal came from Mitchell Duke in the 23rd minute at Al Janoub stadium in a Group D match.

With this result, the Socceroos reached three points while the Carthage Eagles collected one point.
