Olympique Lyon appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager, replacing Pierre Sage until June 30, 2027.
“An experienced 51-year-old coach, Paulo Fonseca has built a solid reputation in Europe thanks to his numerous successes and demanding tactical approach,” the French club said in a statement on Friday.
Fonseca, who has managed several clubs including Pacos Ferreira, Shakhtar Donetsk, SC Braga, Roma, Lille, and FC Porto, is known for his managerial success.
He won the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto in 2013, the Portuguese Cup with Braga in the 2015-16 season, and the Ukrainian Premier League three times consecutively with Shakhtar Donetsk in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Most recently, Fonseca was the manager of AC Milan, but was dismissed in December after just six months in charge.
