The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) on Wednesday offered its condolences over the crash of a plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines near the Kazakh city of Aktau in the country’s Mangystau region.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash near Aktau, Kazakhstan, involving an Azerbaijani airline on the Baku-Grozni flight,” said a statement by the OTS.
Expressing their heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash, the statement said that their thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the incident.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the nations of all the countries impacted by this tragic event,” the statement added.
Earlier in the day, an Azerbaijan Airlines flight with 67 people on board, traveling from Azerbaijan’s capital Baku to the city of Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya, crashed near Aktau on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea.
Kenan Zeynalov, the spokesman of Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office, said during a press conference in Baku that 32 people on board survived the crash.
