Northern Cyprus to head to polls on June 25 for by-election

LEFKOSA, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will head to the polls on June 25 for a by-election due to the resignation of one deputy from the 50-seat parliament.

The deadline for selecting parliamentary candidates for the by-election will end on May 29 and applications for candidacy will end on May 31, the country’s Supreme Election Board said in a statement.

Campaigning for parties and independent candidates will end on June 24, it added.

The by-election will be held to choose a deputy to represent the country’s capital Lefkosa due to the resignation of Kudret Ozersay, head of the People’s Party.

The TRNC has some 210,000 registered voters.
