Most Asian stock markets end Thursday in red

ISTANBUL

Almost all major Asian indexes closed Thursday with declines, except for Singapore’s index.

On Thursday, Japan’s trade deficit reached $6.8 billion in February, indicating that the country still struggles to shake off the coronavirus impact amid high commodity prices and a weaker currency.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, dropped 1.2% to 3,219.11 points as of 1028GMT.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 lost 0.80% to close at 27,010.61 points.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, dropped 1.72% to 19,203.91 points.

China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange also fell 1.12% to close at 3,226.89.

The Singapore index rose 0.14% to end the day at 57,634.84 points.

India’s Sensex benchmark decreased 0.55% to close at 3,155.54.
