Temperatures in Moscow could fall as low as minus 22 degrees Celsius (minus 7 degrees Fahrenheit) over the next two days, the Russian meteorological service said on Thursday.
The met office has raised its alert level for the Moscow region to “orange,” warning that mercury levels could be up to 17C (62F) lower than normal.
The warning covers the period from 9 p.m. local time (1800GMT) until 9 p.m. (1800GMT) on Jan. 7.
Temperatures in Moscow are expected to plummet to between minus 19-22C (minus 2-7F) during this period, according to the met office advisory.
