Moldova is preparing to make significant investments in its energy system, including modernizing its aging infrastructure and strengthen energy efficiency performance in buildings, Moldovan Energy Minister said adding that Turkish firms are welcome to participate and invest in this huge transformation.
Moldova will work for several years to realize these energy efficiency projects, said Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, speaking on the sidelines of the İstanbul Energy Forum, organized by Anadolu under the auspices of Türkiye’s Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.
Parlicov explained that energy efficiency technologies such as insulation, heat pumps and increasing the energy performance of buildings will allow reduction in both costs and emission.
Moldova was dependent on foreign sources of electricity and natural gas until recently, Parlicov explained that his country will undergo a major change and transformation in the field of energy efficiency in order to support energy supply security and energy transition.
Parlicov stated that after the start of Russia-Ukraine crisis, Moldovan and Ukrainian electricity systems were integrated into European electricity systems.
He said that the country is now developing market-based mechanisms for the electricity market and the gas market.
‘Opportunities in Moldova differ in natural gas, electricity and renewable energy. Now we are going out to tender for 105 megawatts of wind energy and 60 megawatts of solar energy,’ he said.
There are many different business opportunities for improving the energy performance of buildings, which are mainly construction works, Parlicov explained.
Parlicov stated that they started tenders in wind and solar energy, adding that some Turkish companies are interested in wind and solar investment opportunities in the country.
‘We invite Turkish companies to participate in this competitive tender procedure,’ he said.
– Türkiye and Moldova sign MoU at Istanbul Energy Forum
Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and Moldovan Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov met at the Istanbul Energy Forum and evaluated alternatives and opportunities in natural gas supply.
After the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two countries in the field of energy.
The MoU provides sharing of knowledge and experience on issues such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity trade, smart grid technologies and natural gas supply.
Both countries also aim to develop joint projects in these areas.
The agreements also support the transfer of knowledge and technology, promotion of investments and private sector cooperation between the two countries.
