Mexico’s unemployment unchanged at 2.6% in May

ISTANBUL

Mexico’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.6% in May, compared to the previous month, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) on Thursday.

The figure came lower than market expectations of 2.7%.

The economically active population was 61.4 million, INEGI said in a statement.

Last month, 59.8 million people, or 97.4%, were employed among the economically active population — 1.6 million more compared to the same month in 2023.

The unemployed population was 1.6 million, while the unemployment rate was also 2.6% of the economically active population.
