Mexican president criticizes US for unauthorized operations in Mexico

ANKARA

Mexico’s president has accused the US of “abusive interference” and espionage over unauthorized operations by narcotics forces on Mexican soil, local media reported.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Monday the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted an infiltration operation in his country without authorization from its federal authorities, according to Mexico News Daily, an English-language news website.

“There can’t be foreign agents in our country, no. We can share information, but those who can intervene (in Mexico) are elements of the Mexican Army, the Navy, the National Guard and the federal Attorney General’s Office,” Obrador said.

The statement came after the DEA revealed that it had infiltrated the Mexico-based Sinaloa Cartel.

Obrador said that the DEA’s move amounted to “arrogant” and “abusive interference” that “mustn’t be accepted under any circumstances.”

“How can they be spying! … Acts of espionage cannot be used,” he said, pledging to raise the issue with the US.
