Messi to miss PSG’s Champions League tie against Benfica for minor calf injury

ANKARA

Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi will be missing Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) UEFA Champions League match against Portugal’s Benfica due to a minor calf injury this week, the French club said on Monday.

“Nursing a calf niggle, Lionel Messi will not make the game against Benfica,” PSG said in a statement.

Messi, 35, did not play against Reims for calf problems last weekend as PSG were handed a 0-0 away draw on Saturday.

On Tuesday, PSG will face Benfica in a Champions League Group H match at Paris’ Parc des Princes.

The best two teams in the group, PSG and Benfica have seven points in three matches.

Third-place Juventus of Italy have three points. Underdogs Maccabi Haifa from Israel bottomed the group with zero points.
