ISTANBUL
Five-time world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will face John Gotti III in a highly anticipated rematch on August 24 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The exhibition bout is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET (0100 GMT), marking Mayweather’s first fight in Mexico.
Their first encounter in June 2023 ended in chaos when the referee, Kenny Bayless, stopped the fight in the sixth round, triggering a mass brawl. Frustrated by the early stoppage, Gotti lashed out at Mayweather, leading to a tense situation in the ring as members from both camps rushed in. The situation escalated, prompting police to intervene and instruct fans to leave the arena to restore order.
Floyd Mayweather, a boxing legend, has held world championships in five weight classes: super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight, and super welterweight.
John Gotti III, 31, is sixteen years younger than Mayweather and is the grandson of John Gotti, the former head of the Gambino crime family.
