Manchester City midfielder Rodri to miss rest of season for major knee injury

ANKARA

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has undergone a knee surgery on Friday to miss the rest of the season, the English Premier League club confirmed.

“He had surgery this morning – ACL and some meniscus, so next season he will be here. This season is over (for Rodri),” Man City manager Pep Guardiola said in a press conference before Saturday’s fixture at Newcastle.

“What he gives us we don’t have a similar player, but the other players all together can replace what Rodri has given us since he arrived to us,” Guardiola said.

“Rodri will be out for a period, not just eight, nine months. As a club we have magnificent players, we will find a solution and it is what it is,” he added.

The 28-year-old Spanish midfielder was injured during a Premier League clash against Arsenal, which ended with 2-2 draw on Sept. 22 at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.

Rodri joined Man City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 to help the Sky Blues clinch four straight Premier League titles between 2021 and 2024, and a UEFA Champions League trophy in 2023.

He scored 26 goals and made 30 assists in 260 appearances for Manchester City.

Separately Rodri won the EURO 2024 title with Spain in July.
