ANKARA

Manchester City qualified Wednesday for the UEFA Champions League semifinal after eliminating Germany’s Bayern Munich with an aggregate 4-1 victory.

Visitors Man City earned a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in the second leg of the quarterfinals at Allianz Arena.

Despite the draw in Munich, the English club reserved their place in the semis, where they will play against Spanish side Real Madrid, the reigning champions and record holders with 14 Champions League titles.

Manchester City’s Norwegian star Erling Haaland drew first blood in Munich after scoring on a counterattack in the 57th minute. He missed a penalty in the first half.

Bayern Munich’s German midfielder Joshua Kimmich leveled the match in the 83rd minute, converting a penalty kick successfully.

Kimmich’s equalizer did not change anything significantly in the tie.

Haaland-led Manchester City previously beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the quarterfinals’ first leg on April 11 in Manchester.

The winning team of the tie, Manchester City reached their fifth Champions League semifinal.

UCL semis to see Milan derby

Italy’s Inter Milan eliminated Portugal’s Benfica to progress 5-3 on aggregate.

The Nerazzurri took a 2-0 away victory against Benfica in Lisbon last week.

Nicolo Barella, Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa were the scorers for Inter in the second leg. Fredrik Aursnes, Antonio Silva and Petar Musa scored for Benfica.

Inter will take on their archrivals AC Milan in the next fixture as the Champions League semifinals will see a Milan derby called the Derby della Madonnina.

The two-legged semis in the Champions League will begin on May 9.

The 2023 final will be held at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium on June 10.
