LONDON

UK police on Tuesday arrested a suspect for a stabbing near the British Museum in central London, with the victim rushed to the hospital.

The incident took place at around 10 a.m. (0900GMT) at the junction of Russell Street and Museum Street, London Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

A man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after wounding a man in the arm near the British Museum, added the police, adding that the man was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

“This was an isolated incident and there is no outstanding risk to the public. It is not being treated as terror-related,” said the statement.

The number of knife or sharp instrument offenses recorded by the police in London rose to nearly 12,800 in 2022-23, up from 11,122 in the previous one-year period, according to figures released last month by German data company Statista.
