Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino scored a late header to help Liverpool take a nail-biting 2-2 draw with English Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
Visitors Arsenal dominated the game for the first 40 minutes at Anfield as the Gunners were leading the match 2-0 thanks to goals scored by Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.
But in the 42nd minute, Liverpool’s Egyptian star Mohamed Salah finished in the six-yard box to keep the Reds’ hopes alive.
In the 54th minute, Liverpool fans were disappointed after Salah missed a penalty.
But in the 87th minute, the Reds leveled the game as Firmino scored a header after a cross by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In injury time, Liverpool wasted several chances as Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale prevented them from scoring a winner.
Salah took a shot from close range, but the ball went too high. Then Salah curled but Ramsdale plunged to parry it.
Near the end of the clash, Ramsdale was again in the right place to save Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate’s effort from very close range.
The 2-2 draw at Liverpool hurt Arsenal’s league title bid.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have 73 points in 30 matches to lead the Premier League. The Gunners are eyeing their first league title since 2004.
Second-place Manchester City – led by Norwegian star Erling Haaland – boosted their points to 67 after they beat Southampton 4-1 on Saturday.
This season, Liverpool are not in contention for the English title, as they are eighth with 44 points.
In the next fixture, Arsenal will visit West Ham United on Sunday at London Stadium.
Title contenders Manchester City will play a home match against Leicester City on Saturday, and hope for another mistake by Arsenal.
Before the Liverpool vs. Arsenal match, victims of the Hillsborough tragedy were commemorated.
A minute’s silence was observed before the kick-off at Anfield in tribute to 97 supporters who lost their lives in stampede at Sheffield’s Hillsborough Stadium during an English FA Cup game between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.
