ANKARA

Barcelona earned a 1-0 win against Mallorca in a Spanish La Liga match Saturday as Polish forward Robert Lewandowski came to the rescue, scoring the winning goal.

Lewandowski entered the penalty box and dribbled past his opponent. Then he curled a right-footed shot to beat Mallorca’s goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic.

The solo effort goal gave Barcelona the lead in the 20th minute and it was enough for victory.

This season, Lewandowski, 34, who previously played for Bayern Munich, has scored nine goals in seven league matches to lead scorers in La Liga.

Following the win, Barcelona climbed to the top of the La Liga with 19 points.

Barca’s nearest opponents, Real Madrid, who will take on Osasuna on Sunday in Madrid, are in the second position with 18 points.

Mid-table Mallorca have eight points.
