Legendary Human Rights Activist John Lewis Dies

In a statement made by Lewis’s family; “We announce that John Lewis, a member of the US House of Representatives, has lost his life with indescribable pain and grief. He was recognized and respected as the conscience of the US Congress and a symbol of American history, but we knew him as a loving father and a brother. He was a valiant champion struggling to respect the reputation and value of all humanity. He devoted his entire life to peaceful activism and became an outspoken defender in the struggle for equality and justice in America. He will be very missed. ” I have.

“CANCER IS THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE”

John Lewis explained that he was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer at the end of December 2019 and said, “I have never encountered a struggle like I am facing now.”

’THE LAST MEMBER OF THE BIG SIX’

Lewis was one of the “Big Six” civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr., and helped organize the March of 1963 in Washington.

When Lewis was 23, he became one of the names close to famous civil rights activist Martin Luther King. He was the last person to appeal to the crowd from the rostrum on the day that King made his speech known as “I have a dream” in 1963.

BLOODY MARKET

Lewis was known for leading 600 protesters during the ‘Bloody Sunday’ in March 1965.

Hundreds of African Americans participated in the protest march in Selma, Alabama, in 1965 for the right to vote. The protesters faced the violent violence of the police while crossing the Edmund Pettus bridge, and the events went down in history as “Bloody Sunday.”
