Lecce manager D’Aversa fired for headbutting opposition player

ANKARA

Italian Serie A club Lecce announced on Monday that manager Roberto D’Aversa has been relieved of his duties after the end of a match against Hellas Verona.

D’Aversa seemed to headbutt Hellas Verona striker Thomas Henry at the end of week 28 game, which ended 1-0 in Hellas Verona’s favor on Sunday.

Henry, who also argued with Lecce players, was sent off with a red card in the 98th minute at Stadio Via del mare.

D’Aversa, 47, later apologized on Instagram for his “unsportsmanlike image” and cited “great tension and adrenaline” caused his actions.

Lecce lay at the 15th spot in Serie A with 25 points, while Hellas Verona are placed 13th with 26 points.
