ISTANBUL (AA) – The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga have agreed to start release audio conversations between the on-field referees and their counterparts in the VAR booth, starting in 2024.
A press release on Tuesday said the project would commence on Matchday 20 and 22 of La Liga, scheduled for Jan. 12 and 15.
“This initiative opens a new phase of collaboration and cooperation between the RFEF, the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), and LALIGA, to make refereeing in professional football and the competitions more transparent,” it said.
The statement said the move will improve fan experience and enhance the understanding viewers have of refereeing decisions, thus “improving the competitions as a whole.”
“In the coming days, both the RFEF and La Liga will provide more information and explanatory materials on social networks to help fans and the media understand how this new approach will work,” it added.
