Harry Kane scored and provided an assist as Bayern Munich came from behind before settling for a 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Wednesday, while Arda Guler helped Real Madrid maintain their perfect UEFA Champions League start with a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig in Matchday 3.
Bayern entered the encounter at the Allianz Arena with four points from their opening two matches, while English champions Arsenal had won both of theirs.
The visitors suffered an early setback when Bukayo Saka was forced off injured in the 10th minute and replaced by Eberechi Eze.
The substitute opened the scoring in the 25th minute after controlling Martin Odegaard’s long pass and finishing into the bottom-right corner past Manuel Neuer.
Bayern equalized 10 minutes later through Alphonso Davies, who latched onto an excellent through ball from Kane near the halfway line before finishing past David Raya.
The hosts completed their comeback in the 61st minute after Jurrien Timber was penalized for a handball while attempting to block Kane’s shot.
The England captain converted the resulting penalty, sending Raya the wrong way to give Bayern a 2-1 lead.
However, Arsenal rescued a point in the 82nd minute when Declan Rice combined with Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres before driving a low shot past Neuer into the bottom-left corner.
The draw left Arsenal unbeaten in the competition with seven points from three matches, while Bayern moved to five points.
– Arda Guler shines as Real Madrid maintain perfect start
Meanwhile, Turkish international Arda Guler scored once and played a key role in another goal as Real Madrid defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid entered the encounter with six points from their opening two matches, while Leipzig had three.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 44th minute following an attacking move involving Guler, Kylian Mbappe and Federico Valverde.
Valverde sent the ball back across the penalty area, allowing Guler to fire a shot through goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt’s legs. Bernardo Silva reacted quickest to the loose ball and converted from close range to score his first goal for Madrid.
Guler doubled the Spanish side’s advantage seven minutes after the restart.
Jude Bellingham delivered a cross from the left, which Mbappe headed back across goal for the Turkish midfielder to flick home from close range.
Mbappe extended Madrid’s lead in the 83rd minute, curling a shot into the top-right corner from the edge of the penalty area after receiving a pass from Yan Diomande.
Leipzig responded two minutes later when Tidiam Gomis converted Christoph Baumgartner’s pass to reduce the deficit.
However, Madrid restored their three-goal advantage in the 87th minute through Diomande, who connected with Brahim Diaz’s cross and fired into the top-left corner against his former club.
The victory extended Real Madrid’s perfect Champions League record to three wins from three matches, taking their tally to nine points.
