Former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was appointed Wednesday as head of global football at Red Bull.

“After almost 25 years on the touchline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this. The role may have changed but my passion for soccer and the people who make the game what it is has not,” Klopp, 57, said in a statement.

“By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible soccer talent that we have at our disposal. There are many ways that we can do this from using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries.”

The soft drink company said Klopp would assume the role of “Head of Global Football” in 2025, taking on a senior strategic position within the organization.

He began his managerial role at Mainz in 2001 before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2008, where he lifted two German Bundesliga titles and advanced to the 2013 UEFA Champions League final.

In 2015, Klopp joined Liverpool, where he led the English club to the 2019 Champions League title, the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2020 UEFA Super Cup.

Klopp led the Reds to their first English Premier League title in 30 years in 2020.
