Japan, South Korea agree to boost bilateral cooperation

NEW DELHI

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Sunday agreed to boost bilateral cooperation, reaffirming that the two countries would carry on communicating frequently at all levels, said a statement by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the 18th G-20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, “the two leaders touched upon the fact that they have already held six summit meetings in the last six months, and welcomed the continued close coordination between Japan and Korea at the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the G-20 summit,” said the statement.

President Yoon expressed his intention to move the Japan-Korea-China trilateral process forward.

Prime Minister Kishida expressed his continued support for the efforts of the ROK (Republic of Korea) as the current chair of the trilateral process.

The trilateral summit will be hosted by South Korea by the end of 2023.
