ISTANBUL
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open men’s singles title on Sunday, his 19th overall title.
The 23-year-old defeated Alexander Zverev with the 6-3, 7-,6, and 6-3 sets to clinch his second consecutive Australian Open men’s singles title at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
Defending Champion Sinner made history by defeating Germany’s Zverev in the Australian Open final at Rod Laver Arena, becoming the first Italian player to win three Grand Slam singles titles.
At just 22, Sinner is also the youngest player to defend the Australian Open title since Jim Courier in 1993.
Sinner’s clinical performance saw him become the first man since Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros in 2006 to defend his maiden Grand Slam title. Remarkably, he also achieved an unprecedented milestone, becoming the first player since 1973 to secure 10 consecutive straight-sets victories against top-10 opponents.
The 27-year-old Zverev from Germany has 23 career titles but has never won a Grand Slam.
