Italian premier hails Kazakhstan as ‘strategic partner’ in Central Asia

ISTANBUL

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday described Kazakhstan as an “important partner” in Central Asia during a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in the capital Astana, where the two leaders discussed strengthening economic and political relations, according to the Kazakh presidency.

“It is a great honor for us to welcome you to Kazakhstan. Italy is one of our leading trading partners in Europe,” Tokayev said, expressing confidence that the negotiations would give a new impetus to bilateral ties.

He also noted the participation of Italian companies in a business forum held in Astana.

Meloni, on her first official visit to the country, praised the organization of the first Italy-Central Asia summit and underlined the importance of building regional partnerships.

“This is a historic moment in our relations with the region. Kazakhstan is a key partner for Italy and for Europe. Central Asia has acquired strategic importance today,” she said.

She emphasized that enhancing cooperation at all levels is essential amid global challenges.
