Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Tuesday extended his congratulations to Hakan Fidan over his appointment as Türkiye’s foreign minister.
“Congratulations Minister Fidan upon your appointment as Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs,” Cohen said on Twitter.
“Much rests ahead of us facing our era’s challenges. I’m sure that together we will further enhance our countries’ relationships for the benefit of our countries and the region,” he added.
Before his appointment, which came on Saturday after the weekend swearing-in ceremony of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Fidan served as Türkiye’s intelligence chief.
Fidan, 55, was appointed the head of National Intelligence Organization (MIT) by then Prime Minister Erdogan in May 2010. Before his appointment to MIT, Fidan worked in Erdogan’s office as deputy undersecretary.
He is married with three children.
