MOSCOW

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday, hours after arriving in Moscow, to discuss strategic partnerships and ways to enhance cooperation in all sectors.

Opening the meeting at the Kremlin, Putin highlighted the significance of the Russian-Iranian agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership, emphasizing its potential to enhance practical cooperation across all sectors.

“Your visit today is particularly important. Not only will we discuss all areas of our cooperation, but we will also sign a foundational agreement between Russia and Iran on a comprehensive strategic partnership,” he stated.

Pezeshkian arrived in Russia for an official visit as his plane landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo-2 airport in the morning, where he was greeted formally by the host country’s senior officials.

Russian television broadcast live the Iranian president’s arrival in Moscow.

When President Pezeshkian exited the plane, he was received by a Russian delegation led by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev.

The delegation also included Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and Igor Bogdashev, director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of State Protocol.

Following their meeting, Pezeshkian and Putin are expected to sign an agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran, signaling a new phase of bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, the Russian president noted that the document had been in the works for a long time, adding, “I am very pleased that this work has been completed. It is significant because it provides the opportunity to strengthen almost every aspect of our collaboration.”

In response, Pezeshkian expressed optimism that the agreement would serve as “a solid foundation for moving forward.”

He also emphasized his commitment to overcoming obstacles to finalize the deal.

Pezeshkian described Iran-Russia relations as “strategic and comprehensive,” referring to Russia as “a brotherly and friendly country.”

He also expressed hope that discussions with Putin would pave the way for finalizing agreements to build nuclear power plants in Iran.
