Independiente del Valle beat Flamengo 1-0 in 1st leg of 2023 Recopa Sudamericana final

ANKARA

Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle beat Brazilian Flamengo 1-0 in the first leg of the 2023 CONMEBOL Recopa Sudamericana (Cup Winners’ Cup) final.

Mateo Carabajal scored the winning goal in the 69th minute for the hosts at Valle Independiente Stadium in Pichincha, Ecuador on Wednesday, in a game starting after midnight GMT.

Independiente’s Julio Ortiz was sent off with a red card in the 88th minute of the game.

The second leg of the Recopa Sudamericana final will be held on March 1 at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

The Recopa Sudamericana, an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1988, is a trophy game held between the champions of the previous year’s Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, South America’s top-tier club competitions.
