Eid al-Adha coming near, non-governmental organizations and philanthropists worked hard to send aid, especially to African countries. Truck loads of aid materials were sent to Africa, where death cases were increasing with the pandemic. In addition to basic foods, the aid materials also included products needed in the field of health such as disinfectants, masks and medical supplies.
Ali Osman Akat, President of L’actone Holding, who sent truck loads of aid, said, “We are rich not as much as we earn, but as much as we share. I am happy to have sent a large number of aid trucks to those in need in Africa this year. Due to the increase in the number of cases and deaths caused by the pandemic, we learned that there is a great need for medical supplies and food products such as disinfectants, masks.
We immediately contacted the authorities and tried to help as much as we could. We think that everyone should take responsibility, especially in underdeveloped countries. It’s nice to help and share,” he said.
Difficult times for Africa
Since the first world developed countries reached the COVID-19 vaccine, some underdeveloped or developing countries, such as Africa, have difficulty in reaching the vaccine. While the number of cases in Africa exceeded 5 million, the number of people who lost their lives approached 200 thousand.
In the last two weeks, it was announced that approximately 5,000 people died due to COVID-19. The total amount of vaccine administered is around 60 million. In addition, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), recently announced that it will send 220 million doses of new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine to African Union member countries.
