Lewis Hamilton beat Dutch Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix, Round 12 of the 2024 Formula One World Championship, on Sunday to achieve his first F1 win after 945 days.

The 39-year-old Brit broke a new record by winning for the ninth time in his home country.

The Mercedes driver finished the race in 1 hour, 22 minutes and 27.059 seconds, while Red Bull’s Verstappen finished 1.465 seconds behind him. McLaren driver Lando Norris finished third with a difference of 7.547 seconds.

“I can’t stop crying! It’s been since 2021, every day getting up, trying to fight, to train, to put my mind to the task and work as hard as I can with this amazing team,” said Hamilton after his victory.

“This is my last race here at the British Grand Prix with this team [before moving to Ferrari], so I wanted to win this so much for them, because I love them, I appreciate them so much, all the hard work they’ve been putting in all over these years.”

Reigning champion Verstappen still leads the driver standings with 255 points, while Norris follows him with 171 and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc at the third spot with 150.

Red Bull Racing tops the constructor standings with 373 points, Ferrari second with 302 and McLaren third with 295.

The next round of the season, Hungarian Grand Prix, will be held on July 21.
