Germany’s producer prices rose 2.5% month-on-month in March as energy costs posted largest monthly increase since August 2022.
Energy prices jumped by 7.5% in the country in March on a monthly basis, due to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East region, federal statistical office Destatis announced on Monday.
“The impact of the conflict in Iran and the Middle East was particularly reflected in substantial year-on-year price increases for mineral oil products and sharp month-on-month rises in the price of almost all energy products,” Destatis said.
Mineral oil product prices were up 22.9% compared with February 2026, heating oil soared by 53.4%, motor fuel prices increased by 22.3%, Destatis said.
Across all customer groups, natural gas cost was 5.7% more expensive than in February 2026 and electricity prices were up 3.1% month on month.
