Germany’s inflation rises to 2.4% in September

ISTANBUL

Germany’s annual inflation rate was at 2.4% in September, up from 2.2% in August, the federal statistical bureau Destatis announced on Tuesday.

“Following a period of decreasing inflation since the start of the year, an increase in the rate of inflation was registered for the second consecutive month,” Destatis head Ruth Brand said.

Brand added that service prices continued to rise at an above-average rate; additionally, the decline in energy prices slowed significantly and contributed less to easing inflation than in the past.

Energy prices fell 0.7% in September 2025 compared to the same month a year earlier, while food prices increased 2.1%.

The inflation rate excluding food and energy stood at 2.8% in September.

Service prices were 3.4% higher than the same month a year ago, while goods prices increased by 1.4%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices in the country increased by 0.2%.
