German consumer sentiment to improve in December

ISTANBUL

Consumer morale in Germany is expected to improve this month, according to a GfK institute survey released on Wednesday.

The survey forecast minus 25.1 points for consumer sentiment in December, up by 2.5 points from November’s upwardly revised figure of minus 27.6 points.

“Geopolitical crises and wars, sharply rising food prices and discussions around national budget for 2024 continue to cause uncertainty; as a result, the level of consumer sentiment is currently still very low,” said Rolf Burkl, a consumer expert for Nuremberg-based GfK.

The income expectations of consumers also increased by 9.8 points in December, soaring to minus 5.9 points, and the propensity to buy gained 6.2 points to reach minus 8.8 points.
