Galatasaray winger Kerem Akturkoglu’s ferocious strike against Manchester United, which brought a 3-3 draw to the Turkish club this week, was named the UEFA Champions League Goal of the Week on Friday.
UEFA said on X that Akturkoglu, 25, won the Goal of the Week polls, beating three other nominees, including Man Utd’s Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes.
In the 71st minute, substitute Akturkoglu fired a right-footed strike from 19 meters to beat Man Utd goalkeeper Andre Onana after Moroccan midfielder Hakim Ziyech had curled a clever ball to find his Turkish teammate.
Thanks to his goal, Galatasaray bagged a 3-3 draw at Istanbul’s RAMS Park on Wednesday evening. Manchester United were unable to secure a 3-1 lead in this match.
Fernandes’ screamer against Galatasaray came second, Rodrygo’s goal (Real Madrid against Napoli) was ranked third and Martin Odegaard (Arsenal against Lens) came fourth.
Group A’s Galatasaray are still battling Copenhagen and Manchester United for the runners-up position. Bayern Munich have already won the group to have booked their place in the Champions League last 16.
In a matchday six fixture, Galatasaray will visit Copenhagen to end the group stage on Dec. 12.
