French right-back Lorenz Assignon joined English Premier League club Burnley on loan Thursday.
“Burnley Football Club are pleased to confirm the arrival of defender Lorenz Assignon on loan until the end of the season from Rennes,” the club said in a statement.
“I’m really happy. It’s been a long day, and it’s been a day of hard decisions, but I’m very pleased to be here.
“I had a number of clubs to choose from, but I spoke to the manager and straight away knew that I wanted to be here,” Assignon, 23, said, adding he is “excited” to play in the Premier League.
Assignon, who played 64 matches for Rennes, had been highly linked with Galatasaray.
The Turkish club was planning to sign Assignon after it sold French right-back Sacha Boey to Bayern Munich on Jan. 28 for a €30 million ($32.6 million) transfer fee plus add-ons.
Rennes product Assignon had a short loan spell with France’s Bastia in 2021.
