Following the resignation of Alexis Kohler, secretary general of the French presidency, in the role since 2017, the presidency could be facing a new scandal.
Kohler is expected to begin working as the deputy CEO at the state-owned Societe Generale bank.
However, immediately after his resignation, it was announced that Kohler would be questioned by an investigation committee established by the Senate on April 8.
The committee will ask Kohler for clarification on the so-called “bottled mineral water scandal.”
At the center of the scandal are allegations that Nestle Waters marketed some of its products as “natural mineral water” despite using banned processes.
The issue, which made headlines in the media a year ago, claims that senators have “irrefutable evidence” that Nestle contacted the Elysee Palace on various occasions.
The content and purpose of these interactions are among the questions the upper chamber seeks answers to. Nestle Waters CEO Laurent Freixe is also expected to testify before the committee on April 9.
