France’s industrial output up by 0.8% in July, above market expectations

France’s industrial output posted an increase of 0.8% in July on a monthly basis, after falling 0.9% in June, official data showed on Friday.

It was above the market expectation, which forecast a 0.1% rise in industrial output.

According to the country’s statistical authority Insee, the output also rose by 0.7% for the manufacturing industry after dropping by 1.1% in June.

“In July 2023, output recovered over a month in the ‘other manufacturing’ industries (+1.3% after ‑1.0%), in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (+1.2% after ‑0.2%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.8% after ‑0.9%),” Insee said.

It added that output bounced back slightly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.3% after ‑0.8%), while it decreased again in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (‑0.6% after ‑1.8%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum (‑3.4% after ‑0.5%).
