Former Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has been banned from football for 16 months and fined by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) for “salary maneuvers” during his term.
In a statement on Monday, the FIGC said that the Italian football body’s court also fined Agnelli €60,000 ($66,000) for “salary maneuvers, relations with agents and partnerships with other clubs.”
Agnelli, 47, was a Juventus president for more than a decade, but he and the entire Juventus board resigned in November 2022 over charges of false accounting.
Under Agnelli’s term, which began in 2010, Juventus won nine Italian Serie A titles in a row until the 2019-20 season.
The Turin Prosecutor’s office previously started “the Prisma investigation” over their financial statements, with the Italian club accused of false accounting, market manipulation, and false corporate disclosures.
The prosecutors especially claim that the Italian football side made use of several capital gains to cover gaps in financial statements from 2019 to 2021.
In January, Juventus were initially given a 15-point deduction in the Serie A standings for capital gains violations, and several members of the Turin club’s former board were also handed bans from football activities including Agnelli.
Then their 15-point reduction, which caused Juventus to be placed in lower ranks in the league, was reversed by Italy’s highest sporting court as it ordered that the case would be re-examined.
In May, Juventus were docked 10 points by the Italian football body for transfer deals, which meant they did not have a chance of qualifying for the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.
Separately, the European football governing body, UEFA, opened a formal investigation into Juventus for potential breaches of UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play regulations at the beginning of December last year.
