ISTANBUL
The euro area’s annual consumer inflation remained stable at 2.2% in April, matching market forecasts, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat on Friday.
The market expected the figure to come in at 2.1% in April.
Energy prices fell 3.5% year-on-year in April, accelerating the fall from -1% in the previous month.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose to 2.7% in April, exceeding market estimates of 2.5%.
Services continued to have the highest annual inflation rate last month at 3.9%, compared to 3.5% in March.
Services were followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco at 3%, up from 2.9% in the prior month.
On a monthly basis, the eurozone consumer price index was at 0.6%, also stable from the previous month.
