EU new car sales reached 10.6M in 2024

New car sales in the EU market increased by 0.8% compared to a year ago, reaching 10.63 million in 2024, according to data by The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) released on Tuesday.

The share of fully electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid car models in total sales in the EU was 51.6% in 2024.

On the other hand, compared to the previous year, electric car sales fell by 5.9% and plug-in hybrid sales fell by 6.8%.

New car registrations in Spain showed a 7.1% growth rate, however France saw a decline of 3.2%, Germany 1% and Italy 0.5% in 2024.

Volkswagen Group sold the most new cars in the EU in 2024 with 2.84 million units.

Volkswagen Group was followed by Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel, that sold 1.74 million units.

Renault Group ranked third with 1.15 million units sold in 2024.

In December, on a yearly basis, new car registrations in the EU countries rose by 5.1%, totaling to 910,505.
