Erling Haaland-led Man City hammer Wolves to control English title race

ANKARA

Norway’s Erling Haaland displayed a stellar performance in Manchester City’s 5 – 1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s men have stayed in control of the English Premier League’s title race.

Haaland scored four goals against the Wolves at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium in the home win.

Argentine substitute Julian Alvarez put the ball into the Wolves’ net near the end of the match in the huge win while South Korean forward Hwang Hee-Chan scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

Guardiola’s Manchester City are only three wins from their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

In the Guardiola era that began in 2016, Man City won the English title in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Leaders Arsenal have 83 points in 36 matches after the Gunners beat Bournemouth 3 – 0 earlier Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have two league matches left. They will next visit Manchester United on May 12.

Second-place Manchester City increased their points to 82 but they have three matches left, which means they are holding the aces.

In their next fixture, Man City will visit Fulham on May 11 in London.

Liverpool are on 75 points in 35 matches and are third in the standings. The Reds’ title hopes faded after they lost 2 – 0 in a derby at Everton, and drew at West Ham United 2 – 2 in previous match weeks.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will host London’s Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
