English Premier League to see Tottenham vs. Arsenal derby on Sunday

The English Premier League will see the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Arsenal derby on Sunday, one of the biggest rivalries of the division.

The club football is set to return this weekend as the international break for the UEFA Nations League ended Tuesday.

In the North London derby, the Spurs will host Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the contest will start at 1300GMT.

The home team of the derby; mid-table Tottenham have four points in three league matches.

Tottenham drew with Leicester City 1-1 in their opener at the King Power Stadium in Leicester on Aug. 19, and later hammered Everton 4-0 in London as South Korean star Son Heung-min netted twice for the Spurs.

Before the international break, Tottenham lost to Newcastle United 2-1 on Sept. 1.

Archrivals Arsenal have seven points to be in the fourth spot.

Arsenal won their first two league matches 2-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers in London and Aston Villa in Birmingham.

However, the Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton at London’s Emirates Stadium on Aug. 31.

Arsenal are two points behind the league’s best two clubs in standings; Manchester City and Liverpool.

Brighton are third with seven points as they scored more than Arsenal.

Arsenal’s Rice suspended; Merino, Odegaard injured

Declan Rice, an Arsenal midfielder, was sent off during the previous match against Brighton on Aug. 31 in London.

Arsenal’s new signing; Spain’s Mikel Merino, who joined from Real Sociedad, had his shoulder fractured in his first training session at the Gunners in late August to be out for weeks.

Gunners captain Martin Odegaard is set to join Rice and Merino as the Norwegian attacking midfielder has suffered from an ankle injury on the international duty.

Arsenal rule North London derbies

In head-to-head comparison, Arsenal are dominant in the North London derbies over Tottenham as the Gunners have 25 wins.

The Spurs have beaten Arsenal in 15 derby matches in the Premier League since 1992. The rest 24 matches ended as draw.

In the Premier League, Tottenham last beat Arsenal 3-0 in a 2022 home match.

In their recent meeting, Arsenal won 3-2 at Tottenham on April 28.

Separately on Saturday, Liverpool will face Nottingham Forest at home.

Leaders Man City, who secured four consecutive Premier League titles in 2021-2024, will also play against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester.
