English Premier League clubs and fans honored during the weekend’s matches Queen Elizabeth II, who died Sept. 8 and will be buried on Monday.
“Honouring her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation and world,” the league said on Sunday that ahead of each match wreaths were laid on the pitch before a minute’s silence was observed, followed by applause and the national anthem, God Save The King.
At the 70-minute mark, the fans applauded to mark the queen’s 70-year reign.
Players and match officials also wore black armbands throughout as a mark of respect, big screens and LED perimeter boards displayed tribute images, while flags at the grounds were flown at half-mast.
